iPhone8 Release Date, Specs and Price

The iPhone 8 is probably still around 11 months away but that hasn't stopped speculation and loose-lipped execs spilling details about Apple's next-generation smartphone.

We've rounded up everything we know about the iPhone 8 so far and will update this article as soon as we hear more.

Release date

The iPhone 8 is likely to be announced in September 2017, marking 10 years since the firm launched its first smartphone.

Price

If it's anything like Apple’s new MacBooks, next year's iPhone will be more expensive than this year's release. However, no price details have yet leaked.

Specs and rumours

Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed earlier this year that the 2017 iPhone will offer the 'radical' redesign that many had hoped the iPhone7 would deliver, and that Apple will launch an overhauled smartphone line-up to mark the iPhone's 10th anniversary.

According to Kuo, the iPhone8 - which may be available in three variants - will offer a "completely new form factor" with narrower bezels than the iPhone 7 and a "more comfortable grip".

In fact, Kuo claimed that the design of the iPhone 8 might be more similar to the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 7 and 6S before it, but Apple will reportedly get rid of the brick-like aesthetic in favour of curved glass panels for the front and back of the handset.

Kuo also pointed to Apple following the now-defunct Galaxy Note 7 by equipping next year’s iPhone with iris-scanning technology.

If remarks from Sharp’s CEO are to be believed, the iPhone 8 will also be the first with an OLED panel.

"The iPhone has been evolving and now it is switching from LTPS [low-temperature poly-silicon] to OLED panels," he said during a speech at Tatung University.

Reports also claimed that the iPhone 8, which is likely to be released in September 2017, will be the first Apple smartphone with wireless charging.

Not just any old wireless charging, either. Bloomberg reported that Apple is "exploring cutting-edge technologies that would allow iPhones and iPads to be powered from further away than the charging mats used with current smartphones".

We’ll go out on a punt and claim that the iPhone 8 will also run Apple’s yet to be unannounced A11 chip and iOS 11. Maybe, just maybe, it’ll also ship with a Lightning to USB-C adapter so you can hook it up to Apple’s new MacBooks.
